NewFrontDesk vs Quo (formerly OpenPhone): an honest comparison

Quo is a business phone system: numbers, calling and texting for a team, priced per user. NewFrontDesk is not a phone system at all. If you are choosing between them, you are really choosing what problem to solve.

The short answer: Quo is far cheaper and does more with the phone itself. Its plans run $19 to $47 per user a month, every plan includes auto-replies to missed calls, and US texting needs a one-time $19.50 registration plus $1.50 to $3 a month. NewFrontDesk costs $199 to $449 a month, does not replace your phone system, and its own missed-call text-back is still in test mode. If what you need is a business number that texts callers back, Quo does that today for much less. NewFrontDesk is for the owner who wants website chat and all enquiries in one inbox, set up for them. Check what your missed calls cost with the missed calls calculator.

Quo's column is taken only from its own public pricing page, read on October 9, 2026. Ours matches our pricing page and the dated status board.

What Quo's pricing page says

We read Quo's own pricing page. Prices are per user, per month.

  • Starter, $19 (or $15 billed yearly). One new or ported number per user, calling and messaging to US and Canadian numbers, voicemail transcripts.
  • Business, $33 (or $23 billed yearly). Adds call transfers, phone menus, group calling, analytics, call recording and CRM integrations.
  • Scale, $47 (or $35 billed yearly). Adds dedicated onboarding and priority support.

On the feature that matters most here, the page is clear: auto-replies, described as "Automatically respond to texts, missed calls, or voicemails with pre-defined messages," carry a tick on all three plans.

Texting to US numbers needs carrier registration, which the page prices at a "$19.50 one-time" review and setup fee and a messaging fee of "$1.50 - $3/month." What that registration is, and why every provider asks for it, is in what is A2P 10DLC.

The real difference: your phone, or what comes in around it

Quo gives your business its phone line. Calls ring in its app, your team shares numbers, and a missed call can get an automatic text. To use it you move your calling onto Quo.

NewFrontDesk leaves your phone where it is. It sits beside it: a chat on your website that takes details, a form link, and one inbox with a status on every enquiry. The steps are on how it works. The two can be used together.

When Quo is the better choice

  • You need a business phone number, shared with a team, with texting.
  • You want missed callers to get an automatic text today. Quo includes it on every plan; ours is not live yet.
  • You have a small team and per-user pricing keeps the bill low.
  • You are happy to set up your own messages and registration.

If that is you, go with them. A tool you can switch on today beats one that is still in preview. Either way, first find out what your missed calls are worth with the missed calls calculator.

When NewFrontDesk may fit better

  • You already have a phone you like and do not want to move your calling.
  • Your enquiries come through your website as much as the phone, and you want them in one inbox.
  • You want the setup done for you at a fixed price.

What we have not checked

We have not used Quo. We read its public pricing page and nothing else, so we say nothing here about its support, its app or how well it works. Features and prices change; its own page is the final word. NewFrontDesk is in preview with no paying customers yet, which is a real difference and belongs in any fair comparison. Questions

About this comparison

Is Quo cheaper than NewFrontDesk?

Yes, by a wide margin for a small team: $19 to $47 per user a month against our $199 to $449 a month. They are different products, so compare what each one does, not only the price.

Can I use Quo and NewFrontDesk together?

They do different jobs, so yes in principle: Quo as the phone system, NewFrontDesk for website chat and the lead inbox. We have not tested the two together.

Is NewFrontDesk live?

It is in preview. The lead inbox, web chat, form link and new-lead emails work today. Missed-call text-back is built but sends no texts until carrier registration is approved, and no payment is taken until the features in a plan work. The dated list is on the status board.
